Buddies ~ daffodils

***In September 2011 6 families got together and started Buddies Home School. Each week we meet in each other's home and follow a simple rhythm: movement and music, craft/ baking, snack time, free play and story time. Each part of the session is led by a different family. We are sharing this week's session with you here...***

Today was a 'crying day' at Buddies. Pretty much all of the kids cried for one reason or another. We couldn't figure out what was going on with everyone, but we stuck to our rhythm and limped through the morning. It was still nice, it always is, but there was pretty much always someone in tears.

We sang some new songs to begin with. We started practising 2 songs in Irish for our St Patrick's Day celebration in a few weeksand to herald spring we sang 'Five Fat Peas...'

and because we were feeling pretty sad we also sang 'If You're Happy and You Know It', which evolved into a really good fun song with lots of improvised verses:
If you're poorly and you know it say Achoo...
If you're grumpy and you know it stamp your feet...
If you're sad and you know it cry boo hoo...
If you're tired and you know it go to sleep...

It ended in giggles :-)

We moved on to our craft (accompanied by more tears...)

Zoe prepared this craft for us but couldn't be there herself as little H was under the weather...

We painted cut out egg cartons (on the wrong side of course...whilst crying of course...) then we mummies realised we'd gone wrong and quickly painted the inside of the cup bits while the kids moved on to sticking their colour paper stems...

and petals of bright yellow crepe paper on top. We let the egg cup bits dry to stick on just before home time. We had a snack and cleared up then the kids went for a play and a bit of a cry.

It seems only one person did the sensible thing...

We read this story...
If you have never read it it is a must, it completely captures the essence of being a mother to young kids :-)

We finished up the session with our goodbye song and some tears and then bundled our tired, sobby kiddies into cars.

What an odd, crying day!

  1. You write with a lovely gentle humour even though days like this when nothing seems to be right for one or other of the kiddos can easily get on top of you as a mother. I like that, I'll try rememember it next time both mine are bawling.
    much love x
